Monthly mutual-fund contributions through systematic investment plans reached a record ₹32,490 crore in September 2026, even as equity markets weakened.

AMFI’s contribution table shows an increase from ₹32,297 crore in August. That is ₹193 crore more, or approximately 0.60% month-on-month, based on Vantage’s calculation.

The record demonstrates continued contributions through the investment route. It does not establish that investors earned positive returns during the month.

Equity funds received stronger net inflows

AMFI’s September monthly report records ₹38,306.55 crore of net inflows in its open-ended equity-scheme subtotal, approximately ₹38,307 crore when rounded.

Reuters reported that the Nifty 50 fell 6.1% during September. The combination highlights the difference between money entering funds and the performance of the assets they hold.

SIP contributions and equity-fund net inflows should not be added together. They measure different things: SIP collections describe an investment method, while the equity subtotal reflects subscriptions less redemptions within a specified group of schemes.

The same investment can contribute to both measures.

The wider industry recorded net withdrawals

Strong equity inflows did not mean every fund category attracted money.

AMFI’s report shows overall industry net outflows of approximately ₹1.33 lakh crore, with substantial withdrawals from debt schemes.

Different investor groups, investment routes and cash-management needs can produce contrasting flows in the same month. The aggregate figures do not identify the motives of every investor.

We examined a separate example of divergent investment flows in this article -> FPI Flows: New Issues Draw Buying as Listed Shares Lose.

That article concerns foreign-investor flows over a different reporting period. Its figures should not be directly combined with September’s mutual-fund data.

What the record means for individual investors

Continued contributions can support a disciplined investment process. Their suitability still depends on the underlying fund, risk exposure, available cash and the date when the money will be needed.

A recurring payment does not remove market risk. Buying more units at a lower net asset value can coexist with a portfolio worth less than the amount invested.

The next useful evidence includes subsequent contributions, redemptions and portfolio performance. A record monthly collection is a participation measure, not a forecast of market recovery.
