Bengaluru will host the 14th edition of INDIA NANO from August 3 to 5, bringing together scientists, startups, investors and policymakers to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) and nanotechnology can help turn scientific research into commercially viable products. This year's theme—"Nanotech's Next Frontier: AI & Beyond – Conceive, Converge, Commercialise"—reflects a growing focus on translating laboratory breakthroughs into real-world applications.
Organised by the Government of Karnataka, the three-day conference is expected to attract more than 1,000 delegates from over 10 countries. More than 80 speakers, 50 exhibitors and around 200 scientific poster presentations are planned, alongside startup showcases, investor meetings and an international exhibition aimed at fostering collaboration between academia and industry.
Speaking at a curtain-raiser event at Vidhana Soudha, Karnataka's Minister for Electronics, IT & BT and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Priyank Kharge, said the state has built an ecosystem where scientific research is increasingly supported by industry partnerships and government initiatives. He said Karnataka aims to ensure that advances in AI and nanotechnology translate into globally competitive products, sustainable industries and practical solutions.
According to Manjula N, Secretary of the Department of Electronics, IT, BT and Science & Technology, Bengaluru INDIA NANO has evolved into one of India's leading platforms for advancing nanoscience and connecting researchers with industry. This year's conference is expected to strengthen Karnataka's position as a hub for deep-tech innovation and research commercialisation.
Beyond keynote sessions, the conference will feature technical workshops, startup pitch sessions and investor interactions under the NanoSparX programme. Discussions will span sectors including semiconductors, healthcare, agriculture, energy and environmental technologies, with a particular emphasis on accelerating innovation through collaboration.
Although nanotechnology often sounds highly specialised, it is already finding applications in products people use every day—from electronics and medical devices to water purification systems and advanced batteries. Researchers are also developing nanomaterials that could improve building materials, enhance energy-efficient coatings and increase the performance of next-generation solar panels.
For the construction and clean-energy sectors, the convergence of AI and nanotechnology could open new possibilities. Nanomaterials are being explored to create stronger and more durable concrete, self-cleaning building surfaces and improved thermal insulation, while AI is helping researchers accelerate material discovery, optimise manufacturing processes and reduce development timelines. Together, these technologies have the potential to improve both sustainability and industrial efficiency.
The conference also reflects Karnataka's broader ambition to strengthen Bengaluru's position as India's leading deep-tech ecosystem. By bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs, investors and policymakers, the event aims to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and commercial deployment—a challenge that often determines whether promising technologies reach the market.
Many of the innovations showcased at INDIA NANO 2026 are still in various stages of development, and widespread commercial adoption will take time. Even so, the conference offers an important platform for connecting research with investment and industry, helping move emerging technologies beyond the laboratory and into sectors that could shape India's next phase of technological and industrial growth.
