The milestone is part of India's broader goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel electricity capacity by 2030, a target announced as part of the country's climate commitments. Expanding renewable energy capacity is expected to play an important role in meeting rising electricity demand while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
As renewable energy generation increases, the government is also focusing on investments in battery energy storage, transmission infrastructure and grid modernisation to improve the integration of renewable power into the electricity network.
Recent policy measures include production-linked incentives (PLI) for domestic solar manufacturing, expansion of interstate transmission corridors and support for large-scale energy storage projects.
Crossing the 300 GW milestone would mark continued progress toward India's renewable energy ambitions as the country works toward achieving its 2030 clean energy target.
