L&T's ₹8.54 Lakh Crore Order Book: Growth or Risk?

Larsen & Toubro has reported strong September-quarter results, including 33% profit growth, 28% higher new order inflows and a record outstanding order book of approximately ₹8.54 lakh crore.

For investors, the size of that pipeline is impressive.

But there's another side to the story.

L&T's Infrastructure & Utilities segment reported an EBITDA margin decline from 6.2% to 5.7%, with higher material costs, logistics expenses and execution disruptions creating pressure.

International contracts also account for more than half the total order book.

So how should investors interpret these results?

Three questions for the community:

  1. Does a record order book give you greater confidence in an infrastructure company, or do margins and cash flows matter more?

  2. Is L&T's substantial Middle East exposure primarily a growth opportunity, a risk, or both?

  3. What evidence would you want to see in the next quarterly results before concluding that higher orders are producing sustainable shareholder value?

We welcome financial comparisons, industry experience, project-execution perspectives and evidence that challenges either the bullish or cautious case.
